Liven Up Your Home By Installing Floating Timber Floors Yourself

Wondering how to make your home's flooring look more beautiful? There are plenty of options available out there when it comes to hardwood flooring. But the best is probably easy-to-install, do-it-yourself floating timber floor panels. This article will provide instructions on how you can install this type of flooring in your home.

Before you can start any DIY project, it is critical that you gather the necessary tools. To install floating timber floor panels, ensure that the following tools are available:

  • A broom and dustpan
  • Rubber mallet
  • Carpenter's crayon
  • Circular saw
  • Claw hammer
  • Rubber mallet
  • Cushioning surface
  • Cutter knife
  • Glue
  • Nails

Project Preparation

Floating timber floors are installed over a thin foam sheet for sound-dampening and cushioning. The planks have to be glued together to create a "floating" floor that moves together as a unit. Use a cutter knife to make your cushioning sheet fit in your room. A few people find it easier to cut the sheet into small pieces since it is more manageable than trying to fit one huge piece into the room. The pieces should then be laid out in the same direction as the panel rows you intend to install.

Installing Your New Flooring

Place panels starting from the walls and put a little glue on the end cavity for fixing the next panel. You might have to use your rubber mallet to ensure that the two panels fit together snugly. If the wall keeps getting in the way of your rubber mallet, use the claw hammer and nudge it in place.

Continue the process until you get to the end row where you need to mark off the excess length of the panel using the carpenter's crayon. Use a circular saw to cut the panel to fit. The remaining piece of panel can be used to start the next row. Make sure that all the pieces fit well, especially those last corner pieces. When everything fits just right, your flooring will be more stable and look better once you have completed the next step.

The next step involves going around the room walls and placing your wall strips. Nail the strips to the floor and wall to stabilise your flooring. This will also make the floor edging look better. Once satisfied that the floor does look good, the next thing to do is cleaning up. Carry out a final inspection as you remove the glue spots, splinters, sawdust and more.

You no longer have to wonder how to get beautiful flooring in your home. Follow the steps above, consult with a professional and in no time at all, you will be proud of your new floating timber floor. For more information, contact a company like Complete Floor Service.

Making Your Business The Best

Hello, my name is Pippa and this is my new business blog. I am quite new to the world of business so I am not an expert. I started a very small company last year which sells goods over the internet. It was exciting but also scary. Thankfully, my friend Alex who is the managing director of a large corporation offered to help me to develop a business plan and apply for a loan so I could grow my product range. Since taking this advice, my business has really taken off so I decided to start a blog to offer advice to others.
