Do you have any old wooden crates around the house that you don't have any idea what to do with? Don't throw them away so they end up sitting in a landfill. You can upcycle wooden crates and make them useful again. There are loads of things that you can make with crates, including these fun ideas.
Book/Knick-Knack Shelves
You can make a rustic bookshelf out of four to six wooden crates. Start by sanding down the crates so there are no rough edges. Stain or paint the crates, and then nail or glue them together. If you are going to use this in a child's room, make it fun and paint each crate a different bright color. You can either hang this shelving on a wall or put casters on it so it is a rolling bookcase.
Another way to do this is to stack the crates on top of one another for a tall book shelf. You may need to brace it to the wall to make sure that it is secure and will not fall over like you would with any tall book shelf.
Coffee Table
If you love rustic furniture, you can create a rustic coffee table with three or four wooden crates. As with the shelves, stain or paint the crates before putting them together. Next, line the crates up in a row, with the open sides facing you. Glue or nail the crates together, and you have a coffee table. The open sides are in the back and are a great place for storing magazines, remote controls, game consoles and much more..
Nightstands And End Tables
Two wooden crates can be turned into a great little nightstand or end table. Simply sand and paint/stain the crates. Then place one on top of the other, making sure that the open ends are facing you. Secure the crates together. If you are making this project to be a nightstand, set it up so that the open sides are facing outward. That way you can have a place to put books, magazines and other items you like to have close to the bed.
Boot Rack
Do your kids come in with wet or muddy boots after playing outside? You can set up an area where they can place their wet items to dry out. Use one wooden crate for each member of your family. You can paint them in different colors and put names on the front. Place the crates so the open sides are facing outwards. The boots and shoes will go inside the crates, and other wet or muddy clothes can go on top.
